Shakedown saves Coronel’s week-end
A failure was detected
Tom Coronel says shakedown has saved his FIA WTCC Race of Argentina weekend from a major setback after an engine sensor failure was detected during the session.
Shakedown has replaced the traditional 30-minute test session at the season-closing overseas races to cut costs, with drivers effectively performing system checks behind the Volvo V60 Polestar safety car over two complete laps.
“It was useful because we had a sensor failure on the engine, which is why I wasn’t out for the second outing,” said the ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet racer, a double winner in this season’s WTCC. “I got an alarm on my dashboard in the first outing. The sensor is quite down on the engine so otherwise I would have lost my first practice tomorrow so for me it was beneficial.”
