SS14: Weijs back up to third in Ypres

Hans Weijs is back up to third place as the battle for the final podium place on the GEKO Ypres Rally took another twist on stage 14 of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event.

The Dutch driver was second fastest through the stage and is now 30.4s in front of rival and fellow ŠKODA Fabia runner Bernd Casier, who dropped back after suffering powersteering failure at the start of the stage.

“We pushed more and more and we needed to because Bernd is close,” said Weijs. “I am not on the limit because I want to learn and don’t crash the car.”

Guy Wilks was fastest through the stage to move ahead of Bernhard Ten Brinke and Mark van Eldik to seventh in the overall standings and 30.5s behind sixth-placed Karl Kruuda, who lost time with a front-left puncture approximately three kilometres from the finish of the stage.

Toni Gardemeister was third quickest on the stage and demotes Robert Barrable to 11th overall.
