Leading contenders from the Intercontinental Rally Challenge-counting FxPro Cyprus Rally will be in action again today when they tackle the inaugural Love Cyprus Golden Stage Rally.

Comprising a single 25-kilometre mixed-surface stage run twice, the event will be televised live on Eurosport and Cypriot channel LumiereTV and carries a prize fund of 150,000 Euros.

Nasser Al-Attiyah, who starts the event on the back of capturing his maiden IRC win in Cyprus yesterday, said he was relishing the prospect of taking part on the innovative rally.

“I’m very excited because it’s a good idea for the rally and for all the sponsors,” said the M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000 driver. “It’s really something special for everybody and I’m sure there will be a lot of spectators. I hope all the drivers stay on the road!”

Roger Feghali, who will drive a Škoda Fabia S2000 on the event, added: “It was clever to make this fight because for us it’s very nice to fight for the money but you will see how the drivers will be changed totally – no respect… they won’t care, I think they will fight for the money! Everyone will drive differently so we’ll see, but I think we’ll see maximum speed tomorrow from all of us.”
