WTCC Macau - The word to the winners

Yvan MULLER – 2012 World Touring Car Champion

“It was a very close call! Rob would have deserved to win the title as well. He was really quick today! The first race was relatively easy. All I had to do was follow Rob, trying to put the maximum pressure on him. But the second place was fine as it left me with a 13-point lead. The second race was another matter. I knew he could win again and this left me no other choice than recover position to finish at least in fourth. In the end I saw I could take third without risking too much and overtook Nikjær. The beginning of the season was not up to my expectations, but then, together with my engineer we found our bearings and from the eighth race I was consistently on top in qualifying and in the races. What should I ask for more? My third title, the second in a row for Chevrolet. A great season!”

Rob HUFF – winner of Races 1 and 2

“It has been a fantastic season for me and the team. I have won eight races and claimed four pole positions, just like Yvan, score point in all the races and lost the title to him by only a few points. In the first race I was pretty under pressure, with two safety car periods and Yvan right on my tail. But I was happy with the result because it was bringing the title fight to the last race. In the second race I have been pushing all the way. However I could not do more than winning… and this was not enough as Yvan scored the points he needed to be champion. Well done to him! But I’m very very happy!”

Ray MALLOCK – team principal RML Chevrolet

“What a great battle we have seen! Both Yvan and Rob proved to be worth of the World Champion title, and I want also to congratulate them for being so gracious in victory and in defeat. I am really proud of how everybody in the team conducted this campaign and this finale.”
