Turán targets home IRC run on Mecsek Rallye
"The possibility is 70/30 that I will be doing the rally"
Hungarian driver Frigyes Turán is hoping to secure the funding to contest the Mecsek Rallye in September, which marks his country’s first appearance in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
Turán, a former winner of the asphalt event, hopes to take part at the wheel of his MM Motorsport-run M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000, which he shares with co-driver Gábor Zsiros.
He said: “I still need to find more money from sponsors but at the moment I would say the possibility is 70/30 that I will be doing the rally. For me as a Hungarian driver it is very important to be taking part and I think my experience of the rally and the stages will be a big help to me.
“It is a very good rally with narrow and fast stages and there will be many fans. It is always popular but with the IRC coming it will be even bigger because the Hungarian people are very proud that the IRC is coming to their country.”
The Mecsek Rallye takes place from 9-11 September and counts as round of the 11-event IRC season.
