ROAL Motorsport claims Teams’ Trophy
The fight for the second position remains close
Tom Chilton’s and Tom Coronel’s results, Sunday at Suzuka, meant that ROAL Motorsport claimed the Yokohama Teams’ Trophy even before the last race meeting.
Although the two races in Macau will award double points, thanks to Chilton’s second place in Suzuka’s Race 1 and Coronel’s fourth place in Race 2, the Italian outfit stretched their leadership to 83 points, a gap no other team may fill as only 72 are still at stake.
In their maiden season with the Chevrolet RML cars, ROAL Motorsport improved consistently event after event. Their progress culminated in Chilton’s pole position and victory at Beijing Goldenport, while Coronel finished on the podium three times: twice second (Salzburgring and Beijing) and once third (Spa).
The Dutchman is currently lying seventh in the Drivers’ Championship, only four points ahead of his team-mate.
The fight for the second position in the Yokohama Teams’ Trophy remains close, with Campos Racing followed by Zengö Motorsport and ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport that are two and four points behind respectively.
