Honda cars demoted for Race 1
The rear wing exceeded the control gauge by the tiniest amount
Following technical checks, the Stewards have yesterday night penalised the three Honda Civic cars for an infringement.
The two Castrol Honda team cars of Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, and the Zengö Motorsport Civic of Norbert Michelisz were all found to have a rear wing that was not in compliance with the S2000 Kit Variant Circuit Homologation Regulations.
The Stewards decided that all three cars will start from the back of the grid for today’s first race.
Castrol Honda Racing principal Alessandro Mariani explained: “The rear wing exceeded the control gauge by the tiniest amount. This was a consequence of a production defect and did not give any technical advantage. It was an error by the supplier that was putting in its best efforts to re-build the cars in a hurry after a number of racing incidents.”
