Citroën to alternate WTCC MAC3 line-up
"On each event we’ll have the chance for one of the other cars to be helping us"
Citroën won’t stick to a rigid driver line-up for Manufacturers Against the Clock, the Tour de France-inspired team trial concept creating waves in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
While factory stars José María López and Yvan Muller are all but guaranteed a place in Citroën’s WTCC MAC3 attack, the French firm will choose from its three privateer drivers, Mehdi Bennani, Tom Chilton and Grégoire Demoustier, to fill the required third entry.
“Our two official drivers will be there but on each event we’ll have the chance for one of the other cars to be helping us,” said Citroën Racing chief Yves Matton. “It will not be on each event the same. It will be a choice event after event but first of all we have to speak also with our new drivers. Depending on the race and how the drivers feel it we will make the choice.”
Under the regulations, manufacturers must submit their WTCC MAC3 line-up ahead of pre-event scrutineering being completed.
Honda and LADA will also participate in WTCC MAC3 with Polestar following suit in 2017 when it adds to its existing two-car effort.
