Cavigioli to build on Mecsek finish in Sanremo

Marco Cavigioli plans to put the experience he gained on the Canon Mecsek Rallye to good use when he continues his bid for IRC Production Cup glory on Rallye Sanremo, which starts on Friday afternoon.

Cavigioli scored his first points in the new-for-2011 category on the Hungarian event at the wheel of his Yokohama-equipped, GMA Racing-prepared Ralliart Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, which he shares with co-driver Monica Fortunato.

A statement from his Island Motorsport team said: “Thanks to this great result they were able to collect several starting points which will be useful to classify for the IRC Production Cup. After the Hungarian round, the hopes of the team are high as they head towards Italy to take part in the next IRC event on the calendar, Rallye Sanremo.

“Marco and Monica will be the only Yokohama Motorsport crew to participate in the IRC event. It goes without saying that the final result of the upcoming round will be an important step to keep aiming for the title win, which is the ultimate goal of Island Motorsport and GMA Racing.”
