Renault to have ’best’ F1 engine - Prost
"We have the data and we will do it step by step"
Renault is on the right path to having "one of the best engines" on the grid.
That is the view of the French works team’s famous advisor Alain Prost, even though Renault has started 2019 with high-profile reliability problems.
"We know we are very close to the limit right now," he is quoted by Marca newspaper.
"Reliability problems are sometimes unavoidable — it’s part of the game and we have to accept it. But Renault will have one of the best engines in formula one.
"Nobody talks about it now, but we have the data and we will do it step by step," Prost added.
From a more personal perspective, though, Prost is no big fan of the current technological situation in F1.
"They are super impressive in technical terms," he is quoted by the Dutch publication Formule 1. "But personally, when I look at it as a driver, I think we have gone too far.
"It is now all mapped out in advance. Everything is calculated in terms of setup and strategy, and as a result, surprises are becoming increasingly rare," said Prost.
