F1 teams notified of entry fee increase

The FIA have today informed the Formula 1 teams of an entry fee increase for the 2013 season, which will see the teams who score the most points this season pay the most to enter next season. This will naturally see the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren pay the most, with HRT, Marussia and Caterham paying considerably less.

After much debate, the sports governing body the FIA have finally revised the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations to comply with the increase in entry fees for the twelve teams on the grid. This will see the entry fee for the likes of reigning Constructors’ Champions Red Bull increase by over $4,000,000! There will, however, be two tiers to these new introductions, with the reigning Champions paying considerably more per point scored than the other eleven teams.

This will see the eventual Constructors’ Champions (most likely set to be Red Bull) pay $500,000, including a further $6000 per point. In comparison to the Champions, the remaining teams will pay the basic $500,000 entrance fee, including a further $5000 per point scored. The teams must pay the basic entry fee by November 30th, only several days after the conclusion of the current season at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Judging by the Constructors’ Championship standings after the 2011 season, this is the amount each team would pay:

Red Bull (650 points) $4.400 million
McLaren (497 points) $2.985 million
Ferrari (375 points) $2.375 million
Mercedes (165 points) $1.325 million
Lotus (73 points) $865,000
Force India (69 points) $845,000
Sauber (44 points) $720,000
Toro Rosso (41 points) $705,000
Williams (5 points) $525,000
Caterham (0 points) $500,000
HRT (0 points) $500,000
Marussia (0 points) $500,000

The reason behind the phenomenal increase in the entry fees for the Formula 1 World Championship lies solely with the FIA’s continued plight to increase it’s revenue from the sport, with the entrance fee hike set to coincide with an increase in the F1 Superlicence fee for the drivers.
