Disappointment for Grosjean

Romain Grosjean moves up to P4 on the grid for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix after Michael Schumacher’s penalty, and although hoping for slightly better from qualifying the Frenchman is looking nowhere else but forwards…

Romain, was your first ever Formula 1 qualifying session in Monaco?

Qualifying here can actually be quite stressful because you know there will be yellow flags, red flags or other situations that you need to overcome as quickly as possible. It actually went okay today; the track was pretty clear for our quick laps, we didn’t have any big issues with the car, but I would be lying if I said that today’s result didn’t disappoint me a bit. I really wanted to qualify as high on the grid as possible in front of all the fans here in Monaco.

Things seem to have gone quite well for you over the weekend; did you have any moments out on track?

I’ve actually ever so slightly kissed the barriers three times over the course of the weekend! It was nothing more than taking a tiny bit of the paint off the tyres really, and it’s all part of the charm of Monte Carlo I guess… each lap is different from the other. That said, with this being the Monaco Grand Prix and all the extra pressure that comes with it things haven’t been too bad for me for overall.

How do you see tomorrow’s race unfolding?

We always have a chance to do well. If you are not too badly positioned on the grid, there is always hope to achieve something good. With a strong start we could be looking at third place on the first or the second corner, but we’ll have a look at the strategy. A top five finish in Monaco would be quite good; any better than that would of course be very welcome!
