Latvia ERC pace shocks debutant Lefebvre

Stéphane Lefebvre admits his pace on Rally Liepāja-Ventspils has even taken him by surprise.

The 20-year-old from France has never driven on snow or ice before but continues to head the ERC 2WD Championship classification in the Peugeot 208 R2 he is driving in competition for the first time, one place ahead of Finnish driver Risto Immonen.

“It’s a big surprise but I am happy because this race is very good and I am in a big battle with Immonen,” said Lefebvre. “I really don’t understand how it is possible but it’s fun and, for the moment, everything is perfect. The car is also very good, it’s fantastic and very easy to drive.”

At Saturday’s overnight halt in Ventspils, Lefebvre’s advantage over Immonen stands at 10.4s.
