Super-sub Thompson back on WTCC duty

James Thompson will make his third appearance in this season’s FIA World Touring Car Championship after getting the call from ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport to deputise for lead driver and team owner René Münnich.

Thompson started the Opening Race in Morocco last month on the reverse-grid DHL pole position only for a nudge from Hugo Valente to cause him to crash out. He hit back to finish P9 in the Main Race and will be in the fight for more points when the Moscow Raceway hosts WTCC ROSNEFT Race of Russia from 10-12 June.

“Our regular driver and team owner René Münnich is busy this weekend due to his commitment to the FIA WorldRX Championship in Norway,” explained ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Team Manager Dominik Greiner. “James was clearly our first choice as we are very happy with his performance over the last two events. At the Slovakia Ring, the car and team was totally new for him. During the Marrakech round James already improved massively and his speed is consistent and fast. I think that we can be strong again in Russia and the whole ALL-INKL.com crew is looking for the next round at the Moscow Raceway.”

Briton Thompson, who previously raced for the factory LADA team, is one of the WTCC’s most experienced drivers with 143 starts to his name. He’s also a four-time winner in the championship.
