Lighter Hondas for WTCC Race of Morocco

Honda has been handed a potential performance boost for WTCC Race of Morocco following the publication of the latest compensation weights.

Having carried 70 kilograms of success ballast in Hungary last week, the Civic WTCCs will be 30 kilograms lighter when the FIA World Touring Car Championship resumes in Marrakech from 6-8 May.

But while the Hondas will run with 40 kilograms of compensation weight, the Citroën C-Elysée WTCCs will again carry the maximum 80 kilograms at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan.

Meanwhile, all three LADA Vestas will run with 30 kilograms of compensation weight but the Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1s and Volvo S60 Polestar TC1s will remain at their minimum base weight of 1100kg in northern Africa.

The compensation weight system equalises performance between the various cars competing in the WTCC. As the winning manufacturer from 2015, Citroën began 2016 carrying 80 kilograms of additional weight, the maximum allowed under the championship regulations.

After the success ballast remained unadjusted for the opening two events of the season, the first recalculation was made for Hungary with the amounts recalculated for every event thereafter.
