Citroën: DS 3 WRC evolution in Portugal

Citroën has confirmed it will unveil the next evolution of its DS 3 WRC at Vodafone Rally de Portugal (21-24 May).

It will be the second of three evolutions that the French manufacturer has planned for 2015 and the latest round of improvements have focused on the aerodynamic package – primarily at the front of the DS 3 WRC.

“We have used all of the new parts during our last test session and everything is working quite well,” Citroën Racing team principal, Yves Matton, confirmed. “We did a step in Monte-Carlo with the rear wing and this second step is to the front of the car.”

Citroën expects its latest evolution, coupled with the improvements that were introduced in Monte-Carlo, will give drivers Kris Meeke and Mads Østberg a more competitive car in the second half of the season.

Matton said: “Maybe on some typical gravel rallies, our car is a little bit more difficult to drive and maybe in these conditions it’s harder for our drivers. But I think in the second part of the championship we hope to have a car that will be more easier to drive and be more confident.”

Citroën is planning to introduce a third and final evolution before the end of the 2015 season but the timescale for the introduction of those new parts has yet to be decided. That evolution will focus on the suspension and geometry.
